Mussorgsky was inspired to write Pictures at an Exhibition by a friend's evocative paintings. The recurring 'Promenade' that leads the viewer/listener from one 'picture' to the next is among the most famous melodies in classical music. This colourful collection also includes more Russian favourites, including the rousing 'Sabre Dance'.
