A wonderful collection of keyboard sonatas by Domenico Scarlatti performed on newly-restored period instruments. While it is unusual to hear these pieces on organ and fortepiano, modern research shows they were intended for just these instruments. Jacqueline Ogeil is an internationally renowned Scarlatti scholar who specialises in his sonatas and keyboard works, as well as an in-demand performer and speaker, all qualities which make this recording historically informed and fascinating.

To undertake the project, Jacqueline Ogeil travelled to Lisbon and London, performing on a fortepiano from circa 1750 that has a unique sound, while the organ of Sao Vicente de Fora is restored to almost original condition. Expertly played by Ogeil herself, these fascinating one-movement sonatas represent the most significant genre of Scarlatti's work, making them not just historically important but also immensely appealing and instantly engaging.
