Leonard Bernstein's Viennese Fidelio enjoys cult status ever since its release on CD. Now a best-selling title in Deutsche Grammophon's The Originals series, the recording is known as one of the milestones in the recent performance history of Beethoven's sole opera. With this release, the Vienna State Opera and Deutsche Grammophon present the original stage production, featuring some of the most remarkable singers of their time including Rene Kollo, Gundula Janowitz, Hans Sotin and Lucia Popp. The cast is almost the same as the CD production, with Hans Helm replacing Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau as Don Fernando .
