This much applauded performance from the Metropolitan Opera House took place November 1982 and enshrines the great Dame Joan Sutherland in her signature role, Lucia di Lammermoor. La Stupenda was in phenomenal voice and gave a performance that held critics and audiences spellbound. Her performance culminates in the famous mad scene and 'legendary' is the only word to describe it. Alfredo Kraus and Paul Plishka are Dame Joan's esteemed colleagues and Richard Bonynge, displaying all of his feted sympathy for this repertoire, conducts the Metropolitan Chorus and Orchestra. An evening to remember and a DVD to treasure.
