From this unique Ensemble comes a truly original evocation of the hours of darkness: glittering nightlife, lullabies and the world of shadows. Featuring the amazing talents of former Australian Opera soprano Lisa Jobson, The Raga Dolls Salon Orchestra specialises in recreating the swirling sounds heard so often in the ballrooms of high society at the start of the last century- a dazzlingly original mix of Viennese Operetta, Gypsy Mazurkas and Argentinian Tango.

"If the world sometimes seems encrusted with politicians' lies, choked with traffic and stained with dreams gone awry, it's good to be reminded of a mythical world of honour, beauty, optimism and even a little wit. Melbourne multi instrumentalist David Osborne has long championed such a world through his music. Now his quartet, the Raga Dolls, has grown into a full- blown orchestra, allowing his music to sweep across time and place. Mostly it harks back a century or so and conjures images of Vienna, Budapest and Paris, the crystal glistening in the light of a thousand candles and the flirtations causing arched eyebrows around the ballroom. Osborne adds weight to his brew by interspersing the frivolity with the occasional realisation of an aching sadness, as happens on Button Dance. He also breaks up the instrumentals with the seductive contributions of soprano Lisa Jobson. A romantic world long gone?
