An absolute treasure from the old American Decca / MCA catalogue, here are two charming and evocative spoken-word recordings of Dickens' most famous Christmas stories, told in inimitable style by two great stars of stage and screen.

Ronald Coleman stars as Scrooge with a supporting cast, sound effects and music directed by Victor Young, in a re-creation of A Christmas Carol.

Charles Laughton retells Mr. Pickwick's Christmas with original musical accompaniment composed and conducted by Hanns Eisler.

Perhaps more than any other, the words of Dickens's touching little tale from 1843 rekindled the joy and warmth of Yuletide: a 'good time,' wrote the great novelist, 'a kind, forgiving, charitable, pleasant time.'

This enchanting dramatization of A Christmas Carol, featuring the richly characterful Scrooge of screen legend Ronald Colman, was originally released in 1941 and quickly became a holiday classic. Its companion piece, recorded in 1944 by Charles Laughton - another of the 20th century's best-loved actors - was adapted from the 'good-humoured Christmas chapter' of Dickens's Pickwick Papers and re-creates a light-hearted (and light-headed) celebration in early-Victorian rural England.

The packaging is pure nostalgia too: the digipack features the original MCA LP cover artwork.
