David Pereira's long-standing commitment to Australian music is further exemplified by this marvellous CD, containing five works by five of Australia's most respected composers. Wesley-Smith's work, written for Pereira, is another in the series of works bringing attention to the plight of East Timor. Andrew Ford's
Memorial
was also written for Pereira as part of the Uluru Project. Nigel Westlake's most popular instrumental work
Onomatopoeia
, originally for bass clarinet, has here been transcribed especially for Pereira. Roger Smalley's
Echo II
, a tour de force for solo cello, is given an athletic performance. And Carl Vine's
Inner World
, written for Pereira and championed by Stephen Isserlis, is presented here in a new recording in which Pereira plumbs the emotional depths of this fine work.
This CD is also a technical showcase, featuring the work of sound engineer Christo Curtis.
