A double CD of songs from the late nineteenth and early twentieth century expounding the influence of patriotism and the British Empire on popular song. As with much of the musical output from earlier and later wars, the sentiments expressed in the songs do not usually reflect the realities of the war, but give a sanitised picture with an often-sentimentalised view of hardship and loss. This recording features the powerful voice of Michael Halliwell accompanied by David Miller on piano.

Artists: Michael Halliwell (baritone), David Miller (piano).
