Three Dollars is a detective story of the heart, a jigsaw puzzle of one man's life with music the key to a path through the pieces. Bowie's Diamond Dogs inspires our hero Eddie's nine year old mantra "be elusive, but don't walk far"; Ian Curtis and Joy Division's Transmission brings him together with his wife Tanya changing the direction of their life forever; Doris Svensson's version of Whispering Pines tracks their early dreams and aspirations; Chet Baker's My Funny Valentine marks a momentary infidelity; and Jolie Holland's Darlin Ukelele a final reminder of a world Eddie could have ended up in. And on top of this and other tracks, Alan John's wonderful score plots Eddie's inevitable descent and ultimate redemption.
