Daniel Hill and Ayano Shimada were the Third and Fifth Prize-winners, respectively, in the Sydney International Piano Competition 2004.

Daniel Hill's performance of the Prokofiev Second was magnificently orchestral in the sonorities he was able to summon up from the piano and the sheer structural grip he had of the music. Ayano Shimada played one of the composer's most popular concertos with delightful touches of light and shade, and interplay with the orchestra.
