A winner of the 2000 Sydney International Piano Competition, St Petersburg-born Alexei Volodin presents a lovely disc of Russian ballet suites arranged for piano by the legendary Mikhail Pletnev. These are magical new versions of classic masterpieces transcribed for piano with all the orchestral colour of the originals, while retaining the essential character of the piano. Alexei Volodin's career highlights include prizes at the Concurso Internacional Paloma O'Shea at Santander, the Concorso Internazionale Ennio Porrino in Cagliari and even First Prize at the Ninth Concours Geza Anda in Zurich.
