Carl Orff's Carmina Burana, in turn boisterous and lyrical, sets ribald medieval songs in a celebration of life's pleasures. Ludwig van Beethoven's monumental Ninth Symphony, the Choral, famously concludes with the uplifting 'Ode to Joy', a timeless plea for universal brotherhood.

The performance of Carmina Burana proved a best-seller on VHS. For this DVD presentation, it is joined, for the first-time outside Japan, by Seiji Ozawa's 2002 performance of the Choral Symphony. In addition, the DVD features a new DTS 5.1 surround sound.
