Katie Noonan, lead singer of george and elixir, possesses one of the most distinctive voices in Australian popular music.

Classical coaching since childhood gave Katie (and also her brother and fellow george vocalist Tyrone) technique, range and vocal powers rarely heard in popular music today. This brilliance carried them to an ARIA Award for Best New Artist in 2001 and continued commercial and critical success. For that solid early training and a vocal genetic disposition, the person they have to thank is none other than their own mum.

Maggie Noonan is a classical soprano whose great talent has seen her grace opera and concert stages in Australia and Europe to great acclaim while also raising a family in Brisbane. Australian audiences now have a chance to hear the dynamic vocal blend of this mother and daughter with the release of the CD Two Of A Kind.

The soundscape of the album ranges from the sweeping classical sound of The Queensland Orchestra under conductor Guy Noble, to the funky jazz tones of Melbourne trio Red Fish Blue.

Katie performs a range of great jazz standards while Maggie sings several immortal arias from the classical repertoire, such as Puccini's One Fine Day. Together they perform the Flower Duet from Delibes' Lakme, the Letter Duet from Mozart's The Marriage of Figaro and Gershwin's Summertime from Porgy and Bess.

The personal and musical synergy when Katie and Maggie sing together results in versions of classical duets unlike any previously recorded.
