This monumental tribute to one of the great Australian-born musicians of our time - RICHARD BONYNGE - is long overdue. Although he has enjoyed one of the most celebrated musical partnerships of all time, with Joan Sutherland, his vast and varied career has stretched to embrace the worlds of ballet and the exploration of lesser-known 19th-century works as evinced by this anthology.

Bringing together six Decca LPs - almost none of them issued before on CD! - on four CDs, it features Bonynge as both conductor and pianist.

Collectors and newcomers alike will be delighted with the recordings of the Cello Concertos and the 18th-century concertos (J.C. Bach and Salieri). Completists will be thrilled with, at last, the issue of the complete Arie Antiche with Renata Tebaldi. In the rarely-heard Massenet songs, Huguette Tourangeau, a singer much encouraged by Bonynge and Sutherland, is partnered by Bonynge the pianist. And perhaps the most amazing of them all is Arias from Forgotten Operas, a cult Decca recording containing some of the most beguiling and thrilling opera you'll ever here.

The set forms part of the prestigious AUSTRALIAN HERITAGE series on ABC Classics and is released to coincide with Richard Bonynge's appearances with Opera Australia conducting, as it happens, two nearly forgotten operas - Rossini's The Silken Ladder and Il signor Bruschino.
