Gondwana Voices' first album for ABC Classics, New Light New Hope, speaks of hope and peace in our unsettled world.
Gondwana Voices is the renowned choir comprising young singers, ages 10-16, from throughout Australia. Created in 1997 by Artistic Director Lyn Williams, the choir has built a worldwide reputation for musical excellence, thrilling audiences with its spirited and innovative performances.
The choir's many high-profile performances include representing Australia at a gathering of the world's finest choirs at the Fifth World Symposium on Choral Music in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, performing in Hong Kong, France and the UK, Choralfest in Melbourne and the Sydney Olympic Arts Festival.
They were also part of the Centennial Ceremony, telecast throughout Australia, and toured Michael Leunig's Parables, Lullabies and Secrets with the Australian Chamber Orchestra and Neil Finn to tremendous critical acclaim.
The repertoire on this disc shows the choir off to their best advantage. A mixture of atmospheric and beautifully moving works, through to those that are fun and joyous, listening to this album is an inspiring and uplifting musical experience.
