This remarkable recording pairs the world premiere of the chamber version of Mahler's Symphony No. 4 with the chamber version of Songs of a Wayfarer.

The works on this album, amongst the favourites in Mahler's repertoire, are given a new and fresh dimension in these chamber arrangements. Clare Gormley shines as the soprano soloist in the final movement of the fourth symphony, perfectly capturing a childlike vision of paradise, whilst baritone Jeffrey Black is superb and brings wonderful passion to the varied emotions of the four movements of Songs of a Wayfarer.

The Sydney Soloists give a wonderful performance, adapting to these pared-back versions with perfect precision, delicacy and feeling.
