In focusing entirely on the soprano saxophone, Fiona Burnett is a member of a very select club, with the great Steve Lacy as its unofficial president. The instrument was initially popularised in jazz by the magnificent Sidney Bechet. Then it fell into a decline, due to the rise to prominence of the clarinet in the Swing era, followed by the alto and tenor instruments.

Here is a player who has helped brng this difficult instrument into focus.

Fiona holds a Masters of Music Performance degree and formed her own all-women band Morgana at an early age. This CD is her sixth album as leader or co-leader.
