An outstanding recital from the soprano Merlyn Quaife with pianist Michael Kieran Harvey. Both are based in Melbourne, and hence this project has a distinct flavour: it is a joint project with the Centre for Australian Studies in Music, based at Melbourne University, and the music was recorded in the ABC's Melbourne studio, Iwaki Hall. All of the composers have Melbourne connections. Apart from Grainger, all based themselves in Melbourne. The Grainger Museum is on the Melbourne University campus, Grainger's hometown. Keith Humble lived in Melbourne when he was not in France or the USA. Willcock and Horowicz are current denizens of Melbourne. All the other composers in this project lived and worked in Melbourne through their lives. This CD then, samples art song writing in Australia over 80 years, revealing music that deserves a lot more attention from singers world-wide! More details
