This 2-CD set contains music from the new novel Dirt Music, by the world-renowned Australian author, Tim Winton. Dirt Music, the novel, tells the story of Georgie Jutland - at forty, she has lost her way in life and barely recognises herself. Enter Luther Fox, a dangerous new element in Georgie's life, but also an unlikely ally. This is the tale of a journey across landscapes within and without, and about the music that sometimes arises from the dust.

CD1: A loose term, 'dirt music' is described by Tim Winton through the character of Luther Fox who says in the novel, "Anything you could play on a verandah. You know, without electricity. Dirt music."

CD2: Music is the theme of the novel and there are several pieces mentioned throughout which don't fit under the heading of 'dirt music'. Central to the plot is the atmospheric Cantus in Memory of Obenjamin Britten by composer Arvo Part. It is included on CD2 and was specially recorded for this album.
