Renaissance battle music - choral songs depicting drum beats, fanfares and battle cries - is amongst the most exciting music ever written. The most famous of these choral battle songs is La Guerre, which was so popular that the two major composers of the Spanish Renaissance, Tomas Luis de Victoria and Francisco Guerrero, wrote entire Masses based on it. This recording contains all these works, and is rounded off by La Justa, a magical ballad about Spanish warriors in battle and returning from war.

The Song Company is one of Australia's oldest and most respected vocal ensembles. On this recording they are directed by Dr Michael Noone, whose recent recording of Spanish Renaissance music was an Editor's Choice selection in Gramophone magazine.
