Australia's pre-eminent piano trio, The Macquarie Trio, has released two compact discs of Beethoven and Mendelssohn Piano Trios on the ABC Classics label. The Beethoven Piano Trios recording was nominated for an ARIA award and also chosen as "Editor's Choice" in Soundscapes magazine.

This music, particularly the two complete piano trios, and after perhaps the Trout Quintet, are the works in which Schubert achieved the purest blend of the 'sociable' spirit of true chamber music, evident here in this glorious recording.
