Sydney International Piano Competition of Australia 2000 - Solo Highlights

Thirty-six competitors were selected following worldwide auditions to participate in the Competition, prizes for which amounted to more than $100,000, and which was broadcast live by the ABC throughout Australia and New Zealand. The ABC also broadcast the competition live on the Internet.

Flags of 21 countries were displayed at the back of the stage of the York Theatre at the Seymour Centre during the first stages of the competition, which ran from 29 June - 9 July 2000. The competition then moved to the Concert Hall of the Sydney Opera House for the concerto concerts with the Australian Chamber Orchestra and the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, culminating in the presentation of prizes and then finalists' recitals.

This twin-CD set includes many memorable performances from 15 of the finalists, including the first prize winner. See also the Concertos twin-CD set.
