Resident at the Canberra School of Music, Guitar Trek is a quartet which plays a unique 'family' of different-sized guitars. This new Guitar Family comprises Treble, Baritone, and Bass instruments in addition to the standard classical guitar, and constitutes a major new direction in the development of the guitar this century. The instruments were designed and built especially for Guitar Trek, by Australian luthiers Graham Caldersmith, Greg Smallman and Eugene Philp.

The Guitar Family made its radio debut in mid-1987, in a short recital for ABC Radio in Canberra. Following the intense local interest generated by the broadcast, Guitar Trek officially presented the new instruments in a full public recital in October 1987. This milestone event was attended by such an overflow audience that the programme was repeated on the same afternoon, for the benefit of those who missed the first performance! Since then, the Guitar Family project has gone from strength to strength. - From the sleeve notes of Graeme Skinner.
