"Throughout my life I have drawn inspiration from the knowledge that my forebears and Beethoven's share the same birthplace in northern Belgium. We share a landscape, the climate, and the smell of the soil. Perhaps this connection is why Beethoven has been a focal point for my artistry, why I feel so close to this great composer's material...

…My only condition to agreeing to this gargantuan task was the choice of instrument. I had already been familiar with the Stuart Piano through Wayne Stuart when he was still in Melbourne and I knew that this instrument not only exuded the right colours, it also possessed a dramatic range of dynamics. Above all, it had the individual clarity in the different registers, not dissimilar to the intrinsic transparent textures of the fortepiano of Beethoven's period."
